The talented golfer qualified for the 2011 U.S. Open through sectional qualifying. He was one of the three amateurs, along with Russell Henley and Brad Benjamin.
In 2011, Patrick finally became world number 1 in the World Amateur Gold ranking, and even held the title for 55 weeks until Jon Rahm overtook him in 2016.
The professional debut of Patrick was at the 2012 Travelers Championship, but he missed the cut. His first professional win was at the 2013 Colombia Championship.

During his second start of the 2018 season, Patrick won his first PGA Tour title. After missing the stroke, Cantlay missed winning the Shriners Hospitals For Children Open in 2019.
