Pierre Soubrier, a Portland Thorns trainer, was sacked for providing his players with prohibited drugs. It has been widely discussed that he provided athletes with drugs without a doctor’s prescription. The Pierre Soubrier’s Codeine Case has sparked worldwide concerns among soccer fans ever since the news broke.

The NWSL announced several facts regarding Portland and the Washington Spirit; one of those findings was Soubrier’s situation. He previously played soccer at Quinnipiac in Connecticut, and the Thorns hired him in 2019. So now, let’s read this informative article to learn more about the coach and the current scandal he is involved in.

Who Is Pierre Soubrier?

Pierre Soubrier is a French soccer trainer and former professional soccer player. He was born in Aurignac, France, to his parents, Sabine Soubrier and Jean Soubrier. Soubrier played for Toulouse FC in the youth system from age 12 to 17. He started each of the 16 games in which he participated as a rookie during the 2007 season at Quinnipiac University. The former soccer player started each of the 19 games he participated in during his junior season in 2009.

Soubrier has had numerous positions as an athletic trainer in the American professional soccer leagues, including the NWSL and MLS. He worked with the Spirit before becoming the Colorado Rapid‘s head of performance and sports medicine. He eventually joined the Thorns as the head athletic trainer and made a comeback to the NWSL.

Crystal and Pierre encountered each other when she competed for the Washington Spirit from 2014 to 2016, and Pierre served as the head athletic trainer. After dating for some time, the couple eventually got married in December 2018. Crystal arranged a transfer to Portland to join Pierre once he returned to the Portland Thorns in 2019.

Moreover, Pierre Soubrier’s wife revealed her pregnancy on November 11, 2021, and the pair is now blessed with a baby girl, Marcel Jean, born on May 20, 2022. Likewise, her national team colleague, Alex Morgan, is one of the highest-paid women’s soccer players.

Pierre Soubrier’s Codeine Case Scandal

Authorities discovered in January 2023 that Pierre Soubrier gave two players codeine-containing medication without a prescription or a doctor’s supervision. Also, it was discovered that he had given the drug to one of the players without her permission. This act was regarded as a severe violation of the league’s rules and federal, state, and local regulations.

After the incident, Soubrier publicly apologized. He admitted his fault and humbly apologized to everyone affected, personally and indirectly. The 35-year-old was suspended at the end of the 2022 campaign alongside Thrones’ assistant coach Sophie Clough.

The NWSL claimed Clough attempted inappropriate contact with a player. The commissioner will have the last say on whether she can work for the league in the future. Clough is now required to take anti-discrimination, anti-harassment, and anti-bullying training.

Codeine Scandal Might Stop His Career

Pierre Soubrier has been suspended by NWSL, and the league is set to notify their decision to The Oregon Board of Athletic Trainers (Oregon Board) and the Board of Certification(BOC). His contract with the Portland Thorns has also been terminated. The decision and guidelines of the Oregon Board and the BOC will govern his job in the league.

Now, Pierre will be qualified for future jobs in the league based on the decision made by the commissioner. Soubrier has owned his wrongdoing, taken responsibility for his actions, and made a real effort to change his ways. Besides, his wife, Crystal, used social media to express her views on the controversial subject and to express support for her partner.

Given how serious Pierre Soubrier’s Codeine Case appears, it looks difficult for the soccer trainer to continue his sports career. We hope the investigating committee will respond fairly to him. Finally, we wish the French trainer strength and peace.
