The Austin entertainment firm Rooster Teeth is leaving its fandom, gaming, and comedy arc. But why all this after two decades of steady run?

Rooster’s parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, decided to close its unprofitable division, which encompasses fandom, gaming, and comedy entertainment.

Rooster Teeth was responsible for the anime-style series “RWBY,” the pioneering sci-fi spoof “Red vs. Blue,” and Michael B. Jordan’s animated mecha series “Gen: Lock.”

Why Rooster Teeth Is Shutting Down?

Despite efforts to sell Rooster Teeth, no successful deals were made. Thus, Warner Bros decided to shut down Rooster Teeth operations.

On March 6, 2024, RT general manager Jordan Levin announced Warner Bros shut down Rooster Teeth, a firm with a history of 20 years.

Since 2003, Rooster Teeth operated as an animation, comedy, and gaming studio. They shared an emotional post on their official Instagram account, thanking their fans for standing all these years.

Levin stated, “It’s with a heavy heart I inform you that Rooster Teeth is closing down due to challenges facing digital media resulting from absolute shifts in consumer behavior and monetization across platforms, advertising, and patronage.”

Due to this, WB Discovery decided to close financing and investing in the company, eventually leading to its death. Warner Bros are currently looking to sell intellectual properties.

Approximately 150 full-time employees will be laid off, and countless partners, contractors, and content parties will lose something.

Despite closing the investments and ending the RT operations, Warner Bros is trying to capitalize on the popular intellectual properties from Red Vs. Blue and RWBY.

Rooster Teeth Podcast Network Will Survive

Although Rooster Teeth is shutting down, its podcast network will be operational. The Roost team is currently not impacted.

According to reports, Warner Bros is looking for external investors to purchase the Roost Podcast Network.

With over 80 shows, the network provides a diverse and exciting content collection that will attract potential buyers.

Rooster Teeth had a good run, but it was not enough to overcome the expectations.

In spite of thriving for two decades, they were unable to keep up with the rapidly changing market and downfall.
