A Tragic Loss In Gary’s Life
Gary Sinise, best known for his iconic roles in Forrest Gump (1994) and Apollo 13, took to social media to express his grief and honor his beloved son.
The acclaimed actor poured out his sentiments in an emotional statement:
He inspired us with his faith, courage, and love, and showed us what grace under fire feels like. He never gave up, and we will love and miss him for all eternity. We love you, Mac. Moira and Gary Sinise, and our Team Mac Family.
Born on November 10, 1990, to parents Gary Sinise and Moira Harris, Mac was passionate from a very young age.
McCanna began playing drums at age nine and often used to substitute for his father’s drummer.
Mac was accomplishing well in his career. He worked alongside his father at the Gary Sinise Foundation as an Assistant Manager of Education & Outreach.

On August 8, 2018, Mac was diagnosed with Chordoma, an uncommon kind of cancer that starts in the spine, according to Gary.
Despite undergoing therapy, Mac’s condition deteriorated over time, eventually rendering him incapacitated as the cancer advanced. The year 2018 was particularly challenging for the Sinise family.
Chordoma is a one-in-a-million cancer that only affects around 300 people in the US per year. While going through his battle with cancer, Mac worked on his music piece “Artic Circle.”

McCanna Anthony Sinise died on January 5, 2024, at 3:25 pm, but the Gary Sinise Foundation officially announced it on February 28, 2024.
McCanna Anthony Sinise’s funeral was held on January 23, and the foundation extended sincere condolences to all those affected by this profound loss.
Mac, a USC Thorton School of Music graduate, could no longer play drums due to his disability. However, he worked hard, financed all the recording sessions, and waited for his dream album ‘Resurrection & Revival’ to be made public.

Although McCanna Anthony Sinise died, his family is working tirelessly to help countless others suffering from Chordoma.
The foundation honors Mac Sinise’s legacy by helping 100 chordoma patients access life-prolonging treatments.
