Why Did Rust Armorer Hannah Gutierrez Convicted?
While doing rehearsals for an action scene for his movie Rust, actor Alec Baldwin accidentally opened fire.
Hannah, the armor supervisor, was responsible for dummy rounds and revolvers on the set.
Halyna Hutchins died on October 21, 2021. After her death, her family filed a case against Hannah on February 15, 2022.
Gutierrez-Reed’s involvement and negligence were seen in this incident.
Prosecutors argued that Reed acted irresponsibly in the set and neglected the standard safety procedures despite the warnings.
The witness testified that Gutirrez was distracted and careless on the set, often engaging in phone calls and other stuff while performing in rehearsal.

Closing Arguments Of The Case
The Deputy District Attorney highlighted the severity of the breach in safety standards and measures in the set, stating there were many chances to stop the incident from happening.
In the same argument, Assistant Director Dave Halls Sánchez stated, “He didn’t pull the trigger; Ms. Reed pulled the trigger by letting something dangerous happen.”
Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer stated in this matter, “The reason why I’m going to remand you is you are now convicted, and this is a death,”
Sommer added, “It’s criminal negligence, but it’s still a death.” After that, Assistant Director David Halls was sentenced to 6 months in prison and a $500 fine with 24 hours of community service.
At the closing of the case, the Jury decided Reed would be guilty of involuntary manslaughter.
Reed will not face 18 months of prison with a $ 5,000 USD fine. However, the exact date for her sentencing has not been scheduled.
Similarly, Baldwin has also been charged with involuntary manslaughter and is blamed for the death of Hutchin.
Alec Baldwin will face his trial in July 2024.
