Both of Troy Dargan parents work at KARI, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of Aboriginal communities. His father is the head of culture/engagement at the KARI Foundation, while his mother, Wendy, works as a quality/compliance manager.

On November 11, 2023, the Canberra Raiders recruited Troy Dargan ahead of the 2024 NRL season. Previously, he made his international debut for the Cook Islands in a 2021 Rugby League World Cup qualification match.

On December 24, 2023, the Cook Islands rugby player Troy Dargan lost his life in a motorcycle accident. He was holidaying with his parents and siblings in Aitutaki, Cook Islands. Troy was 26.
Dargan tragically passed away during a family vacation on Christmas Eve. A rising young rugby player, he had played just NRL games for South Sydney in 2020.
Troy’s management group, Aria Sports Group, confirmed the news via social media. “On behalf of the Dargan family, it is with a heavy heart that we share the news of TJ’s tragic passing overnight,” Arai posted on their Facebook.
Rachael Tuara, a member of the Dargan family, organized a fundraiser on GoFundMe. Meanwhile, the Dargan family requested privacy during their devastating time.
Further, the Canberra Raiders shared a heartfelt post highlighting Troy’s passion and his talents. Several of his colleagues, including Reed Mahoney, Josh Schuster, and James Schiller, among others, sent their prayers to Troy’s family.
